TRANSLATING MOBILE APPS AND WEB APPS (LOCALISATION)
Mobile, web and desktop applications are full of text that needs to be translated, but it is always part of a localisation effort. Localisation is the process of adjusting a service or a product to the needs of a new market. It goes beyond translation, but translation is still an important part of app localisation.
The most vital thing to remember in app translation is that text in apps usually consists of single words, phrases or simple sentences. If you export them to a text file and provide no context, you’ll never get an accurate translation.
App translation and localisation is one of the fields where the saying “Context is king” is most true.
Make sure that you provide translators with access to the relevant software, as well as an extensive set of screenshots and videos to present each phrase in context.
App text translation is best performed by humans.
